The book Coup by Drake Alexander calls out some officials for their corrupt behaviors. It’s about time people take justice into their hands, especially when the government has chosen to stay mum about it.

Henry Ward Beecher, an American minister, once defined law as valuable. Not because it is the law, but rather because it’s supposed to encompass justice and protect people’s rights.

Everyone has the right to a peaceful and content life. This quality of life includes fulfilling their needs, wants, and overall safety and security for themselves. But as everyone lives in a society limited by its resources, not everyone’s demands can be easily met. This restriction causes conflicts of interest, competition, and arguments that may typically lead to aggression.

This is when laws are needed.

When people are governed by their needs and the desire for the fulfillment of these, society must lay down rules to regulate their behavior. These rules prevent them from hurting each other, tearing down society and its resources, and tarnishing the concept of justice.

These rules are commonly referred to as laws.

Laws exist for the protection of nations and everything and everyone under it. However, they are written and passed primarily with the safety of the citizens in mind. Laws protect people from injustices and illegalities that may befall them. These can include but aren’t limited to abuses from other people, social organizations or corporations, and even the government.

Hence, in this sense, laws are supposedly inherently good.

The ideology that governments should ultimately implement good laws, those that don’t limit whoever benefits from them, is called the Rule of Law. This rule states that laws should ensure everyone has access to accountability, stability, justice, and, most importantly, equality.

The rule of law ensures that nobody is above the law. It provides an orderly and just society, where everyone is treated equally and held accountable for their actions regardless of their power and influence.

This is how a just society should be.

In an ideal world, society keeps the rule of law pristine and upheld.

However, people aren’t living in this perfect world. Instead, they’re in a world filled with injustices, seen or deliberately hidden.

Like dogs hiding their treasured bones underground, afraid that they’ll be taken if seen, some government officials have hidden their injustices, those that benefit them. Acting boldly in instinct to satisfy their unjust needs, yet hiding and acting innocent like cowards whenever they’re in danger of exposure. And more often than not, these officials aren’t held accountable by the law.

Nobody is above the law unless they’re government officials themselves, who carry out these laws and decide who’s in the wrong or right.

Under this unjust lens, the constitution is below the law held by the powerful.

nation’s constitution supposedly acts as the foundation for the laws that govern its body. It embodies the people’s core values and moral standards. It serves as the framework and principle from which the laws are translated and based. As with the concept of the rule of law, the constitution should ensure the government enforces these laws consistently, responsibly, and withstanding the influence of power and the authorities.

The constitution is the supreme clause. It precedes any state of law.

Most importantly, it’s drafted by popular consent considering the people’s representative. Hence, establishing that the constitution, the laws, and the government exist to serve not the latter’s needs nor to satisfy their desire for power but rather the people’s rights.

However, under this unjust society, the people are reduced to mere followers instead of being protected. They have been stripped of their voices and opinions. In a society where standing up against corrupt government is associated with extreme violence and militant nature, the constitution becomes second to the powerful.

The laws that initially existed to protect the people have failed. Instead, society faces an immense disparity between the powerful and the powerless. Instead of being protected, the poor and the working population are reduced to percentages of joblessness and poverty. Instead of being prioritized, these men are continuously ignored for their needs.

However, this changes under a major coup.

After years of unjustly exploiting power, people have yet to stand up against these corrupt officials. It’s about time someone takes this step of resistance.

Author and lawyer Drake Alexander published a book exposing these people to all their dirt. And this book can become the people’s source of power to stand against the government’s fallacies, a rebirth of what a constitutional justice should be.

In the book Coup by Drake Alexander, he reveals pieces of evidence against the government’s illegalities and irregularities. Through his book, he shines a light on conspiracies revolving around corruption and abuse of power. The book is undoubtedly a breath of fresh (and just) air. Rather than writing out claims and personal arguments, Drake ensures to dig deep into this issue and provide evidence supporting his words.

You will love this book if you’re interested in reading about conspiracy theories.
